It took just 24 hours for someone to steal a Christmas tree from a shopping centre in Italy.

Thieves stole the tree from the Galleria Umberto I arcade in Naples yesterday morning, which meant there was barely enough time for customers to appreciate it.

It had been generously donated by restaurant Gran Caffè Gambrinus.

An image showed the remains of the once great tree, which measured several metres, which had been stripped down to almost nothing.

The brazen thieves may have used a chainsaw to take the tree, according to the Local.

But the arcade’s security should have probably known someone would try to steal it because it has happened before.

The trees normally turn up as fuel for the Sant’Antonio Abate bonfires that take place in January.

In 2015 soldiers attending Galleria Umberto I managed to catch some teenagers who were stealing the Christmas tree and brought it back.

They secured the tree with steel cables after that and they should have probably done the same this time.
