Blind Date is returning for a brand new series with a cute twist – for the first time singletons will be allowed to bring their dogs onto the show to help them find love.

The Channel 5 dating show is seeing out 2017 with a brand new episode, as Paul O’Grady tries to help hook more people up.

In the opening episode, the contestants will be joined by their four-legged friends, which dog-lover Paul – who hosts Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs – is over the moon about.

In a preview clip ahead of Saturday night’s show, 62-year-old Paul is seen chatting to contestant Lauren about her pet pug.

He asks Lauren: ‘So who’s this little beauty here?’, and she responds: ‘This is Lola, she’s my pug, she’s six. She’s a little madam.’

Paul responds: ‘I go weak with dogs, seriously. All my butch goes, do you know what I mean?!’

Research commissioned by Channel 5 found that owning a dog is good for your love life.

A study of 2,000 adults found dating a dog-owner has been hailed a must because they have a tendency to be active, sociable and thoughtful.

Plus, one quarter of Brits think owning a dog makes someone instantly more attractive.

Other benefits of dating puppy-loving people are they are loyal, responsible and understand that life can be messy.

Blind Date starts Saturday 30th December at 7pm on Channel 5.
