Mesut Ozil has signed a new contract with Arsenal which will make him the highest-paid player at the club, according to reports.

The Gunners were running the risk of losing Ozil on a free transfer at the end of the season and Manchester United had registered their interest in signing the 29-year-old this summer.

But according to the BBC, Ozil reached an agreement with Arsenal over the weekend and officially signed his new contract at the club’s training ground on Wednesday.

The report claims that the Germany international will earn £350,000-a-week before tax, which will make him the top earner at Arsenal.

Ozil has committed to a three-and-a-half-year deal which keeps him at the Gunners until June 2021.

The midfielder also reportedly rejected offers from Paris Saint-Germain and the Chinese Super League.

Ozil, who joined from Real Madrid for £42.5 million in 2013, is in his fifth season with Arsenal and has helped the club win three FA Cup trophies.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have now completed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for a club-record £56m.
