CBS has renewed praised comedy series Mom for a sixth season. The pickup makes it a clean sweep for top comedy producer Chuck Lorre, with all three of his CBS shows already renewed for next season five weeks before the May upfronts. Mom joins veteran The Big Bang Theory, which will be headed into its 12th season, and hot newcomer, Big Bang spinoff Young Sheldon, which was renewed for Season 2. As Lorre often does on his series, word is that he delivered the news of Moms renewal at the multi-camera comedys wrap party last night.
Mom, starring Anna Faris as well as Emmy — and now Oscar — winner Allison Janney, recently marked its 100th episode. It is currently averaging over 11 million viewers and is the third most-watched comedy in broadcast television, behind only Lorres two other shows, The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, and is a top 5 comedy among both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.
“Mom has been a lynchpin comedy for us over the last several years,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “Its a fearless series that tackles provocative social issues with laughter and grace, and a large, loyal audience has followed. With gifted talents like Anna and Allison leading a great ensemble cast, and a production team headed by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky, Nick Bakay and Gemma Baker, this series just keeps getting better.”
Created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky and Gemma Baker, Mom premiered on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 and moved to Thursdays at the start of Season 2. It stars Faris, Janney as well as Jaime Pressly, Mimi Kennedy, Beth Hall and William Fichtner. The series is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers are Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky and Nick Bakay.
With Moms renewal, CBS has picked up its entire current Thursday lineup for next season with the exception of Life In Pieces. That includes comedies Big Bang, Young Sheldon and Mom and freshman drama S.W.A.T. Also given an early renewal by CBS is new drama SEAL Team.
