A male professor who teaches political theory at Kings College in London has found himself in some less than pleasant circumstances after an American colleague accused him of sexual harassment.

Female Merrimack College professor Simona Sharoni was in an elevator with Professor Ned Lebow when he made a joke about going to whatever floor “ladies lingerie” was sold.

Sharoni, a professor of womens and gender studies at Merrimack College in Massachusetts, said in a complaint she filed last month that she was standing near the elevator at a San Francisco hotel and she offered to press the elevator buttons when Lebow “said with a smile on his face, womens lingerie and all his buddies laughed.”

She said she froze and didnt confront him. As the men walked out of the elevator, the only other woman in the elevator turned to her and told her maybe they should have spoken up. They said it is no longer acceptable to make such jokes.

So instead of speaking up, Sharoni quietly filed a complaint last month, alleging that she was “shaken” by the incident.

“As a survivor of sexual harassment in the academy, I am quite shaken by this incident,” she wrote.

Lebow has since refused to apologize for his comments, denouncing her complaint as a “public smear campaign.”

And hes right. This is the most ridiculous complaint in the history of ridiculous complaints.

This professor made little more than an embarrassing dad joke. If Sharoni — a womens studies professor who has likely studied way worse (seeing as its a part of her job) — cant handle minor comments without melting then she should probably consider switching careers.

Arent gender studies professors supposed to be concerned about real issues in the world, like female oppression in terrible places like Yemen and Somalia? I doubt the real atrocities are taking place in San Diego elevators among PhDs and esteemed intellectuals. But I could be wrong. I havent brushed up on my womens studies in quite some time.
