Sweden’s mouse-sized mini street art comes to Stockholm for the first time

A guerilla street art group behind a mouse-sized universe has created its first tiny artworks in the Stockholm area: a hotel and cafe for mice on the archipelago island of Gustavsberg.

Hotel Stilton is a four-storey structure, while Vera Pistacias Patisserie is an upmarket fika spot for the sophisticated mice about town, with tiny buns and cakes visible through the window.

"Gustavsberg got in touch last year and we thought it would be fun to do something in the archipelago, and at the same time in the old industrial district," the artists behind the creation told The Local when asked why they chose the new location.

Gustavsberg, a town on the island of Värmdö in the Stockholm archipelago, is best known for its porcelain factory and for making many of Sweden's toilets and sinks.

For those unfamiliar with the story behind AnonyMouse street art group and Sweden's mouse-sized towns, the anonymous group of artists first launched in Malmö in 2016, with a miniature restaurant named Il Topolino and a fancy nut boutique, Noix de Vie.

The guerilla artwork gained international attention and captured the imaginations of locals, who added additional details including cheese and a mini bus stop.

On New Year's Eve 2016, both of the original shops were damaged by unknown vandals, but the anonymous artists continued to add to the ankle-height attractions, with a tiny theme park, bookstore and theatre added to the Malmö mouse universe, and antiques and textiles stores in the western city of Borås.
