Thugs of Hindostan box office Day 2: Aamir Khans Thugs of Hindostan set to struggle at the box office.

Thugs of Hindostan had a massive opening on Day 1, with a total collection of Rs 52.25 crore. To add to that, the Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer has become the first ever Bollywood film to cross the Rs 50 crore benchmark on its opening day.

Sharing the box office figures of Thugs of Hindostan on Twitter, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, #ThugsOfHindostan smashes *all records* [Hindi films] as it breaches ₹ 50 cr on *Day 1*… Sets new BENCHMARKS in some circuits… Big holiday [#Diwali] + tremendous hype + massive screen count help put up a SENSATIONAL TOTAL…#ThugsOfHindostan Thu biz…Hindi: ₹ 50.75 cr. Tamil + Telugu: ₹ 1.50 cr. Total: ₹ 52.25 cr [5000 screens] India biz. Highest Day 1 for a #Diwali release. Highest Day 1 for YRF film. Highest Day 1 for a Hindi film”

He also tweeted, “H-I-S-T-O-R-I-C *Day 1 biz* was expected, but the real test for #ThugsOfHindostan begins from *today onwards*… Will have to maintain the pace over the weekend [Fri to Sun] and *also on weekdays* to put up a MASSIVE TOTAL… Wait and watch situation right now!”

Thugs of Hindostan has largely received poor reviews from critics. Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta, in her review, wrote, “As you slide into Thugs of Hindostan, you expect a rousing tale of thuggery and patriotism, because thats what the name suggests. You also expect a modicum of quality filmmaking because you cant get more A-list than Yash Raj Films, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan. With two big marquee names coming together for the first time, the screen should have crackled. But there is not even a flicker. What you get instead is nothing but a massive cherry-picking enterprise from big entertainers of the past, many of them YRFs own. Not only do you end up picking up on past films, scenes and references, you are left struggling with staleness and boredom. The writing is shockingly pedestrian.”

Going by the reviews, it looks a like a tough journey ahead for the Vijay Krishna Acharya directorial. Will it continue to woo the audience? Only time will tell.
