William Shatner has pitched an idea of how he could return as Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek, and we’re gunning for Old Man Enterprise.

It’s been over 20 years since Captain Kirk seemingly met his end in Star Trek Generations, but that hasn’t stopped fan hopes he’ll emulate co-star Leonard Nimoy and return to the franchise in some capacity.

Considering there’s now potential for a cameo in CBS series Star Trek: Discovery alongside the rebooted movie franchise with Chris Pine, has Shatner given the notion some more pondering?

Speaking to IGN about what it’d take for an appearance in Star Trek: Discovery, Shatner said: ‘[It would take] a great deal of money. I don’t know what you’d do with a character who appeared 50, now 51 years ago. You know, I am 51 years older, with all the exigencies of age.’

While an appearance in Discovery wouldn’t make an awful lot of sense considering it’s a prequel to the original series, he’s intrigued by the idea of returning to the role as an older man.

Shatner added: ‘Are there stories to tell about an ageing guy?

‘What would Captain Kirk be like 50 years later, with the sagacity of mind, and yet the body doesn’t do what he wants it to do? I mean, it’s an interesting story.’

Could there be some potential for a time-travelling appearance or a weird flash-forward in Star Trek: Discovery? We’re not so convinced.
