Olly Murs has signed up to be a coach on The Voice – and it’s more than a little awkward.

The 33-year-old not only started his career on the talent show’s rival series The X Factor, but hosted the show in 2015 alongside Caroline Flack.

However, after a poorly received series, Olly left The X Factor a year later, with Dermot O’Leary returning to replace the duo.

And Olly now admits that head honcho Simon Cowell hasn’t been in touch to congratulate him on his new gig.

Speaking to Good Morning Britain at the launch of series seven of The Voice, the You Don’t Know Love singer said: ‘I haven’t heard from Simon. But you know, if he’s upset, then…’

Olly continued: ‘I don’t believe in rivalries. X Factor was an incredible part of my life and now I’m taking the next chapter and becoming a coach here on The Voice.

‘I’m loving it and there’s no hard feelings from me, anyway. If he wants to call me, call me. Grab a chat, Simon.’

When the clip ended, Susanna Reid looked to be visibly cringing at the awkward clip, with showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold guessing that Olly – with his 10 million album sales – would be just fine.

Olly is joining Will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson and Tom Jones on the ITV series, and told GMB that while his mum is proud of his new job, she only has eyes for another coach.

He said: ‘My mum came up to see me because of Sir Tom. And when she came up to the chair to give him a kiss, I was expecting a double kiss on the cheek – they went full on mouth to mouth. This is the kind of impact Sir Tom has on people’s lives.’

Don’t be jealous, Olly.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
