The Walking Dead’s latest episode saw the first noteworthy characters die in the eighth season, as the show continues the fight against Negan’s Saviors.

While we’re still awaiting Gabriel’s fate after being trapped with Negan in the premiere, the latest episode, Monsters, served up some baffling and expected deaths which were foreshadowed in episode two The Damned.

After being shot, Aaron’s boyfriend Eric was killed following his injury after being left by a tree away from the ongoing battle.

As the episode concluded, Aaron returned to check on Eric where he discovered his body was missing, before looking into the distance and noticing he had become a walker and was wandering to join the undead herd.

Interestingly, the audience (and Aaron) doesn’t closely see Eric’s face or body following his transformation –so could Aaron have mistaken his boyfriend’s corpse for another undead wanderer from afar?

The second death was slightly more blunt – with the return of season one character Morales resulting in his semi-comical demise after a prolonged speech about killing Rick.

As he holds Rick at gunpoint in the Saviors base, Morales’ speech is cut short by Daryl’s crossbow, who bursts into the room to fire a bolt as the pair were coming to an agreement.

Daryl similarly kills another innocent bystander who gives them information later in the episode, pointing to the ‘rogue’ Daryl actor Norman Reedus teased before the season began.

You can catch The Walking Dead on AMC Sundays, and on Fox in the UK on Mondays at 9pm.
