RB Leipzig have ruled out the prospect of Naby Keita linking up with Liverpool in January.

The Premier League side announced in the summer they had struck a deal to sign Keita – reported to be worth in excess of £50million – with the midfielder officially moving to Anfield in July 2018.

Keita has since been involved in a training ground bust-up with a Leipzig team-mate and sent off three times, prompting suggestions he could be allowed to join Jurgen Klopp’s squad six months early.

The German club's sporting director Ralf Rangnick, however, insists there is no chance they will allow the 22-year-old to go in the New Year as they chase a place in the Champions League knockout stages and qualification for next year's competition.

“Even if we should not reach the knockout stages of Champions League, it would make no sense to allow Naby to join Liverpool earlier,” Rangnick. told Leipziger Volkszeitung.

“We want to qualify for Europe again and we need Naby for that.”
