BBC One’s political debate show Question Time has revealed that Thursday night’s episode was shorter than usual due to a member of the audience being taken ill.

The pre-recorded programme – which this week came from Colchester Town Hall in Essex – normally runs for an hour, but this week was cut to only 40 minutes.

Presenter David Dimbleby explained what had happened at the end of Thursday night’s show, with the video later posted to the Question Time Twitter account.

‘I’m afraid at this point we had to curtail this edition of Question Time,’ he explained.

‘A member of the audience was taken ill and couldn’t safely be moved. So we had to bring the programme to a close.’

He went on to announce that next week’s show would be taking place in Scarborough, with December 7th’s being filmed in Swansea.

An update was posted on the show’s Twitter page today to say that the audience member had now left hospital.

‘With regards to last night’s #bbcqt – the audience member is now out of hospital and thanks everyone for their concern,’ the tweet read.

Guests including Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott, crime author Dreda Say Mitchell, Business secretary Greg Clarke and former Marks and Spencer Chief executive Lord Rose had been debating capitalism on the show when the person was taken ill and filming was abruptly shelved.

Question Time returns next Thursday night on BBC One at 10.45pm.
