Susan Calman helped Kevin Clifton realise a long-held ambition on last weekend’s Strictly when they recreated the paso doble from the film Strictly Ballroom.

But it wasn’t just British audiences who got the chance to see the routine for themselves – as it seems the movie’s original star Tara Morice was a fan too.

So much so that she actually surprised Susan and Kevin on Friday’s It Takes Two by giving the performance her seal of approval in a special video.

Zoe Ball asked the pair, who were guesting on the BBC Two show on Friday night, if any of the stars of the original film had been in touch about their routine – and Susan revealed that the stars of the forthcoming West End musical had spoken to them.

But Zoe told them they could go ‘one better’ as – much to their amazement – she introduced the clip.

‘Hi Kevin and Susan, it’s Tara here in Sydney. 25 years ago I did the paso doble, but I have to say congratulations on your magnificent paso doble,’ Tara told them.

‘Best of luck. A life lived in fear is a life half-lived.’

Cue hysteria from the couple as Susan and Kevin shrieked and he shouted: ‘That is unbelievable, I can’t believe it!’

‘That saying she just said from the film there was written under my collar in the suit I got married in. That’s how much I love the film.’

All Susan could manage, meanwhile, was an astonished: ‘Oh wow!’

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

Tara starred alongside Paul Mercurio in the 1992 hit – and has since carved a pretty successful acting career for herself in Australia – appearing extensively in theatre as well as in the likes of Blue Heelers and Home and Away.

Susan and Kevin, meanwhile, will follow up their paso doble this Saturday night with an American Smooth, in their bid to reach the top six of the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing kicks off on BBC One on Saturday night at 6.50pm.
