Warning: Contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season eight.

The Walking Dead’s latest episode gave a proper introduction to mysterious character Siddiq, who’s set to become a big player in the seasons to come.

While the season eight premiere was our first sighting of Siddiq (Avi Nash), he hasn’t been named until new episode The King, The Widow, And Rick, which saw Carl on course to bring the character back to Alexandria against his father’s wishes.

But who is this mystery fellow set to change the walker game? Here’s all you need to know about Siddiq.

So who is this guy?

Siddiq is a character from The Walking Dead comic series and video game, who enters the story following the current All Out War storyline playing out in the show.

In the comics, Siddiq is a member of the Oceanside community who helps rebuild Alexandria after the war against Negan, and (spoilers) goes onto have a romantic relationship with Rosita.

Of course, in the show he’s portrayed as a stray who’s become quite adept at creating walker traps – so he might prove useful in other ways previously unexplored in the rest of the franchise.

But why’s he important?

In the show’s first episode, Siddiq referenced a line he said his mother often quoted from the Quran: ‘May my mercy prevail over my wrath.’

It’s a line echoed by Rick in an assumed flash-forward scene at the tail end of the premiere, leading us to believe Siddiq’s inclusion could have a profound effect on Rick in the tribulations ahead.

He’s also the show’s first major Muslim character, which will be a welcome injection for a show which desperately needs a dose of the fresh.

Showrunner Scott Gimple also told Mashable about his significance, saying: ‘He’s a super important character this season. He’s tied into some very big events.’

So what do we know about him from season eight?

Aside from being incredibly prolific with traps, we also learnt Siddiq has killed 237 walkers and one person, who was apparently already dying anyway.

He’s also managed to survive while seemingly stranded in the woods alone for days, so it seems like he’s pretty equipped to hold his own.

But will he be better than Jadis the trash queen?
