Jared Kushner ‘is senior official named in Michael Flynn court papers’
Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is the ‘very senior’ US Government official who ordered Michael Flynn to contact Russia, sources have said.
Kushner, Ivanka Trump’s husband, directed the former adviser to the US president to contact Russian officials about a UN resolution involving Israel, according to US media.
Flynn pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI on Friday.
Court papers from his plea hearing stated a ‘very senior member’ of Trump’s transition team – said to be Kushner – was behind Flynn’s actions.
Prosecutors allege that Flynn consulted with the official before speaking to the Russian envoy.
Flynn is reportedly prepared to testify the president instructed him to make contact with Russians.
Prosecutors with the office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller believe he lied to the FBI when he told them he had not discussed sanctions with the then-Russian ambassador to the United States.
Flynn stepped down from his role earlier this year following calls for him to be fired over his alleged contact with the ambassador.
