Dancing On Ice is heading back to a screen near you very soon and we couldn’t be happier, not least because so many of its original stars are coming back with it.

Come January, those cold post-Christmas Sunday nights will be brightened up by the return of those daring routines, sequinned frocks and skating legends Torvill and Dean – who this time will be joining the show as judges.

They couldn’t be happier to see the old line-up back together – Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are back on board as presenters.

‘It’s great, they’re the originals that started when it started,’ Jayne tells Metro.co.uk. ‘The first time they worked together was Dancing On Ice and look how great they are now together as a team.’

Being on the judging panel will give Torvill and Dean an entirely different perspective on things.

Instead of putting the celebs through their paces, they’ll simply be showing up on Sunday nights and getting those scorecards out.

‘When we were in that coaching, mentoring role they were like our family, our children – you get to know them all and you’re trying to build them up,’ Christopher says.

He knows that they can’t be that paternal when having to judge.

And don’t expect to see them taking to the ice either.

‘We won’t be skating on the TV show but on the tour for sure, we’ll be dusting them off,’ he says.

The pair will certainly have a pretty eclectic line-up to judge – with the likes of Candice Brown, Kem Cetinay, Antony Cotton, Jake Quickenden and Monty Panesar set to strut their stuff on the rink.

Despite those usual naysayers suggesting that they haven’t heard of half of them, they’re not accepting any complaints about the line-up:

‘It’s the characters and the personality they bring to the show that counts,’ Christopher says.

‘If everybody looked at Love Island, they’d all say “oh we don’t know anybody” – and that show had a huge following, so it came down to their personality, their characters.

‘In this reality show you have to gain a skill.

‘I’m not saying other dance shows are not like that but before you dance you’ve got to learn to skate and that’s why a lot of people are dubious about doing it, because it’s a huge commitment.

‘One of the remits was to people that they can’t just turn up one or two weeks before the show starts or you won’t have anything. They’ve got to put the time in.’

And let’s not forget about the danger element either, as he reminds us: ‘I think it’s the most dangerous reality show on TV now The Jump’s off!

‘There’s a lot of jeopardy but there’s also lycra and sequins and they’re trying to convince us they can dance on ice ,so they’re walking the line between disaster and glory.’
