If you have – or had – children of a certain age, you will of course be familiar with Fireman Sam, the affectionate, under-fives-friendly saga of life in the Pontypandy Fire Brigade.

Which means that you might not be prepared for what you’re about to see here – as indeed one father wasn’t when he spotted this, um, interesting moment on one of his kids’ Fireman Sam DVDs.

It involves characters Elvis Cringlinton and Station Master Steel – and the sort of compromising position we never thought we’d see before the watershed.

As tweeter Adam Tranter put it: ‘My kids were watching Fireman Sam and then this happened.’

Oh.

The tweet was posted at the end of last month, but has since gone viral as the possibility that Elvis and Station Master Steel might be engaging in some hot kitchen table love action gathered momentum, with one person commenting: ‘Getting randy in Pontypandy.’

Indeed. Another added: ‘I guess that’s what they meant when they said entertainment for the whole family.’

And it didn’t stop there.

@adamtranter @ThePerezHilton Lol ? There are no words – I'll never be able to watch Elvis & Station Officer Steel in the same light again ?

@adamtranter @OregonJB Certainly didn't have cartoons like this when I was younger.

Yes, yes, all very amusing. But before you all start clutching your pearls and shrieking about somebody thinking of the children, we should point out that Station Master Steel is merely trying to help Elvis after he gets stuck in a chair – by freeing him from its clutches.

He is pulling him out of a chair. Now grow up everybody (Picture: Twitter)

So can everybody calm down a bit now please? Although of course this is just the latest in a long line of kids’ TV shows causing a spot of bother – remember when Thomas the Tank Engine traumatised us all? Or when everybody thought CBeebies’ Chris Jarvis had casually dropped the C-word?

In other words it happens, you guys. So now you can all stop making jokes about Sam playing with the fireman’s pole…
