On Wednesday, nominations for the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced by Niecy Nash and Olivia Munn. Though Kevin Spacey has long been a mainstay of this particular ceremony (and awards season at large), his name was—perhaps unsurprisingly—missing from the lineup of stars nominated in the best-actor-in-a-drama-series category, an award he won in both 2015 and 2016.

But at the same time, Spacey’s onetime co-star Robin Wright—who will lead House of Cards in his absence next season—still managed to secure a nomination for best female actor in a drama series, as she has for the past three years. The Spacey snub, coupled with the continued welcome of Wright—and a similar move from the Golden Globes earlier this week—sends a clear message that Spacey, a much-decorated actor with two Oscars to his name, is no longer welcome in this (or just about any) awards-season circle.

For the last few weeks, the actor has been embroiled in a sexual misconduct scandal that has shattered his career and reputation. It began when actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of sexual misconduct; Spacey apologized for the incident but said he did not remember it. Then numerous other accusers stepped forward with allegations of their own, which Spacey has not responded to. As he kept quiet, his reputation came tumbling down. Since then, he’s been booted by Netflix, edited out of the Ridley Scott film All the Money in the World and replaced by Christopher Plummer, and dumped by his agency and publicist.

The SAG snub is his second high-profile rejection in a handful of days. On Monday, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association not only neglected to nominate Spacey for a Golden Globe for House of Cards, but also opted to nominate Plummer for his performance in All the Money in the World—a role Plummer hastily signed up for just a few weeks ago. It was a twofold burn that seemed more symbolic than anything else, rewarding Scott and Plummer for saving this movie from being swept into the Spacey undertow.

Jeffrey Tambor also felt the sting of the H.F.P.A. and SAG. The actor, who won the SAG Award last year for best male actor in a comedy for his role in Transparent (and got a Globe for the same role in 2015), was not nominated for either prize this year. Like Spacey, Tambor has been wrapped up in a sexual misconduct scandal that has thrown his career into question. He later announced that he intended to leave Transparent due to the “politicized atmosphere” of the set, though apparently no final decision has been made.

Aside from timely Spacey and Tambor snubs, the SAG nominations were fairly predictable, save for a few outliers. Marc Maron received a surprise nod for his performance as a bossy coach in GLOW, the Netflix series about a wild 80s wrestling league. Netflix can also celebrate the continued surprise success of Ozark,Jason Bateman’s gritty drama; Bateman and co-star Laura Linney were nominated in the drama-series category.

However, there were also some surprising snubs. Tiffany Haddish was once again not recognized for her role in Girls Trip, nor was the blockbuster comedy itself recognized in the motion-picture category. Haddish and the film were also recently snubbed by the Golden Globes, a disappointing result considering the film’s great reviews and Haddish’s breakout success.

There were also a few snubs in store for Call Me by Your Name, the ascendant Luca Guadagnino romance with the loudest Oscar buzz of the year. Armie Hammer and Michael Stuhlbarg were left out of the best-supporting-actor category, and the film was also missing from the ensemble-cast-in-a-motion-picture category. But Timothée Chalamet still landed a best-lead-actor nod, earning the film some much-needed attention from the SAG crowd as it continues its march toward the Academy Awards. The SAG Awards will be handed out on Jan. 21, 2018.
