Five children who escaped the Grenfell Tower Fire with their parents will speak of the importance of family and of having a home when they appear on Channel 4 on Christmas Day.

The fire claimed the lives of 71 people – including at least 18 children – when it swept through the West London tower block on June 14 this year.

All of the five children giving the message fled the blaze with their families – and will speak about the importance of having a home and of cherishing loved ones, in an address which will air at 2.30pm on Christmas Day, half an hour before The Queen’s Speech.

They include sisters Megan and Luana Gomes, who lived on the 21st floor of the block with their parents and who will be spending the festive season in temporary accommodation.

‘My Christmas message is that I think all families, children and parents should have a nice warm cosy home,’ Megan says in the message.

‘I just want everyone in the world to have a house at least.’

‘My Christmas message is that everybody should love and respect each other because you never know what tomorrow will be like,’ Luana adds.

Others taking part in the broadcast include ten-year-old Hayam Atmani, who escaped from the 15th floor with her family and who describes her experiences of that night.

‘We went down the stairs and all we could see is this big flame on the side of the building,’ she says, adding: ‘My message for everyone at Christmas is to stay as a family, and don’t suffer about anything.’

The 10-year-old will spend Christmas and her birthday, which is on December 27, in the hotel where her family are still living after losing their home.
