Most TV shows have passionate audiences and that can be a double edged sword. On one hand, the fact that viewers care so much can only be a good thing but on the other, certain shows can just never win.

Barely a day goes by when The Chase isn’t accused of being a fix. When the Chaser beats a team, they either had easier questions or Bradley set up. It can’t ever be because they are some of the best trivia experts on the planet and they have years of experience facing barrages of questions.

When a Chaser loses on a Celebrity edition it’s a fix because the Chaser should have known that and they just felt they had to give money to the team. However, the true story is much less pitchfork-grabby and throbbing with intrigue – sometimes the Chasers are simply unbeatable.

The game sees the team of contestants pick a question set of A or B. The questions are already loaded into the computer before this choice is made and the idea is to get a sense of balance, with some ridiculously easy questions nestled among relatively tricky ones and real stinkers.

The Chaser gets the remaining set that the other team don’t get. The whole process, as with the entire show, is overseen by an adjudicator completely separate from ITV and with no real interest in whether the team or the contestant wins. They also time how fast Bradley asks questions and have in the past stopped him to start again if it isn’t right. Additionally, on those very close to call final chases, they painstakingly sift through the footage and make a decision based on the strict rules – on occasions this has gone in favour of the Chaser but just as commonly it has meant a win of lots of cash for a team.

How do Metro.co.uk know this? Well we took the liberty of checking in with the Chase – including Bradley and the Chasers themselves – back when the fix claim was a daily occurrence. Tonight, Twitter has seen the show trend when Jenny Ryan aka The Vixen, prevented a team from winning £100,000 when she caught a score of 24, slipping up only once. She had 14 seconds remaining and naturally, fans were disappointed to see such a high prize fund not reach the team – particularly as one member called Charlie showed extremely strong quizzing prowess.

Jenny has taken to Twitter to respond to the claims – and even challenged those calling out the show to come and have a go and see how it actually works for themselves.

The team (especially Charlie) put in a great performance – unfortunately for them, so did I. I've put in a lot of work, I'm the top-performing Chaser rn, so it's pretty saddening that some people have to look for other reasons for the result! I'm simply good at my job. #TheChase

The usual rules apply:
It is the team who pick the question set A or B, overseen by independent adjudicator.
The questions are only 'easy' if you know the answer.
Look up "confirmation bias".
We all answer more quickly/interrupt when we are face high scores, we have to to win.

Jenny is currently performing at a high level and, as the newest addition to the team, has certainly proven her worth. And now that she has been part of her very own ‘omg it’s a fix!’ storm, she truly is initiated!
