It’s all change for Netflix‘s Narcos as the show announces two new lead characters for season 4, which is currently in production.
The trailer for the new series, which has not finalised a release date yet, will see Michael Pena and Diego Luna spearhead a new cast, with DEA Agent Javier Pena played by Pedro Pascal departing the show.
Fans of the show will know Javier for leading the hunt for Pablo Escobar in the show’s first two seasons and the Cali Cartel in season three.
The trailer reveals two new characters who appear to be the focus of the new show, played by Ant-Man star Michael Peña and Rogue One actor Diego Luna.
However, in true style, their characters have not been divulged, but filming for the new season is underway in Mexico, which is where the new series reportedly takes place.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter recently, showrunner Eric Newman said: ‘We always knew that we would get to Mexico eventually.
‘A key team comprised of myself and the guys I really trust and work very closely with — [director] Andi Baiz, [co-creators] Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro — have been discussing how to best transition to Mexico as early as season two.
‘We decided on the Guadalajara cartel because it represents the beginning of the modern Mexican drug trade. It makes sense to start there,’ he continued.
Considering the fresh revamp in season three was a relative success, we’re more hopeful this provide a welcome spin on the Narcos formula.
Netflix will release Narcos season four in 2018.
