Shortly after news broke about the deadly shooting, President Donald Trump said he had been in contact with Florida Governor Rick Scott and offered “prayers and condolences to the families of the victims.”

“My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting,” Trump tweeted. “No child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school. Just spoke to Governor Rick Scott. We are working closely with law enforcement on the terrible Florida school shooting.”
