It’s been an emotional evening on First Dates, but none made us grab for the tissues more than superhero Sue.

The 72-year-old revealed to her date, retired electronics engineer Peter, that she decided to have a career change from a nurse to a therapist after her two sons died five months apart in separate motor accidents.

‘I ended up being a therapist,’ she told Peter. ‘I actually went into therapy because I had two sons and they were killed. They died in separate traffic accidents.’

She went on to explain that her youngest had crashed a mophead that he and a friend had built.

‘My younger son with his friend had built themselves a little mophead between them. He went out the first time on it and there was a terrible crash.

‘So I went down to the hospital and they told me he’s not expected to live. He lived for two hours.

‘They were what they call “working on him,” that’s what they say. The unfortunate thing about being a nurse is you know what that meant.’

Her other son had died in a car accident just a short while later.

‘Five months later there was a knock at the door. My ex husband’s stood there. And I just thought, who is it this time?

‘I just collapsed and screamed.

‘The breaks locked on the car and they hit a tree. He died with his best friend.’

Viewers were both saddened and in awe of Sue and her story, with many revealing that they were very teary after listening to her speak about her boys.

What a brave lady. Can’t imagine losing both your sons in separate traffic accidents. Horrific. #FirstDates

Sue – who described her ideal man as a cross between Jeremy Corbyn and Peter Kay – told 70-year-old Peter that: ‘I kind of wanted to think I’d be a survivor, that kind of thing.’

And we think it’s safe to say viewers wouldn’t describe her any other way.

And it was good news on the date front, as the pair agreed to go on a second date – and Sue even got a cheeky kiss!

Good on ya, Sue.
