The Republican candidate for a Pennsylvania district conceded to his Democratic opponent Wednesday night.

Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Conor Lamb announced his GOP opponent Rick Saccone had called him to concede last week’s election.

“Just got off the phone with my opponent, @RickSaccone4PA, who congratulated me & graciously conceded last Tuesday’s election. I congratulate Mr. Saccone for a close, hard-fought race & wish him the best. Ready to be sworn in & get to work for the people of #PA18,” Lamb tweeted.

The race between Lamb, who often took moderate positions compared to his Democratic colleagues, and Saccone was a tight one. Lamb beat Saccone, who had the president’s support, by about 600 votes.

“This afternoon, I spoke to Mr. Lamb, conceding the race in the Pennsylvania 18th Congressional District and congratulating him on his victory,” Sacone said in a note given to CBS News. “While there are less than 800 votes separating us, the people of the 18th District deserve to have a voice representing them in Congress.”
