Gennady Golovkin Calls Out Canelo’s Alleged Doping: ‘These People Are Terrorists’

Kazakhstani pro boxer Gennady Golovkin aired out his grievances regarding his opponents’ alleged use of performance enhancing drugs during a presser this week.
The candid rant probably stemmed from a story that broke several weeks ago that Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez tested positive for Clenbuterol — a banned substance that helps athletes cut weight and build muscle. Alvarez claims he tested positive for Clenbuterol after eating some bad meat in his home country. But Golovkin’s not buying it.
When asked about the scandal and his upcoming fight against Alvarez in May, Golovkin reportedly fired back, “The commission…they all put their heads down to avoid eye contact. I noticed it when I reviewed the fight again. These people are terrorists, they are killing the sport, not just me.”
He later told the Associated Press, “I told you, it’s not Mexican meat. This is Canelo. This is his team. This is his promotion…Canelo is cheating. They’re using these drugs, and everybody is trying to pretend it’s not happening.”
He also suggested that Canelo’s muscles looked “enlarged” and it seemed pretty obvious to him that he’d been taking pills.
So far, Alvarez has said he’d move from Mexico to a US training facility and he would “clarify” the situation.

But he’s been pretty quiet about the hiccup ever since.
The two square up in a rematch on May 5, so it’s understandable that Golovkin would be upset about the prospect of his opponent cheating. At best, it’s ufair. At worst, he could get badly injured. We’ll just have to wait until the facts come out to establish a final verdict.
