EXCLUSIVE: Ed Stafford, the first man to walk the Amazon, is pioneering the worlds first true 4K survival competition format with Discovery.

I understand the explorer is working with the factual giants international broadcast division on First Man Out, a multi-part series that will see Stafford compete with a range of celebrities to make it out of difficult situations. His first competitor is Cat Bigney, who has previously worked with Bear Grylls on The Island.

The series is produced by Blue Ant-backed Singapore producer Beach House Pictures, producer of shows including Nat Geo Wilds Otter Town. Filming is now taking place in Micronesia. I understand that there is another international partner involved in the show as well as Discovery, whose vice president of factual production and development Ed Sayer commissioned the show.

It is Staffords latest show for Discovery following Betty and Base Camp Films Left for Dead, an adventure series that followed him attempting to escape from some of the planets most extreme environments.

He previously worked with the broadcaster on shows such as Naked and Marooned, which aired in the U.S. as Naked Castaway and Into The Unknown. His journey across the Amazon was documented in Channel 5s Walking The Amazon.

It is the one of the most high-profile non-scripted TV series to be produced in the 4K format, which refers to the horizontal screen display resolution in the order of 4,000 pixels. Netflix is one of the leading proponents of the tech format with shows such as Stranger Things and Narcos.
