Stephen Colbert translated President Donald Trumps wild weekend Twitter tirade about the New York Times report POTUS has, for years, mistreated his personal attorney Michael Cohen who he now fears might flip on him.
“The article seems to have gotten under Trumps extremely loose skin,” Colbert explained of the NYT report, after FBI raided Cohens office, home and hotel room the FBI raided, scooping up a treasure trove of documents.
According to Trumps tweets, NYT and article author Maggie Haberman – a “Crooked H flunkie who I dont speak to and have nothing to do with” – are going out of their way to “destroy Michael Cohen and his relationship with me in the hope that he will flip,” using “non-existent sources and “a drunk/drugged up loser who hates Michael” who Trump now describes as “a fine person with a wonderful family.”
“Never ever doubt Trumps commitment to end the opioid crisis – one drunk/drugged up loser at a time,” Colbert snarked.
Trump went on to suggest “most people will flip if the government lets them out of trouble, even if it means lying or making up stories.”
Explained Colbert, “So what Trump is saying here is Cohen is a good guy and this is all a witch hunt – unless he flips, in which case hes a liar and Ive never met him.”
