EXCLUSIVE:American Gods have started work on their second season and according to Neil Gaiman, they are ready to rock – literally.

As you can see from the behind the scenes video above and the photo here, Ian McShane, Ricky Whittle, Yetide Badaki, Orlando Jones and more of the self described God Squad have began production this month on the sophomore run of the Starz series at Wisconsins famed House on the Rock. Featured in Gaimans 2001 award winning mythological novel on which the drama is based and glimpsed briefly via signage at the end of Season 1, the real life Badger State tourist attraction is a major player in the tale along with McShanes perpetually shifty Mr. Wednesday and Whittles Shadow Moon.

With its premiere directed by Hannibal and Star Trek Discovery alum Chris Byrne, the eight-episode second season of American Gods is expected to air in 2019, as Whittle asserts in the BTS clip.

“The first season was all about getting to the House on the Rock,” says EP Gaiman, who is overseeing Season 2 with fellow EP and showrunner Jesse Alexander. “Its amazing to see everyone back, and to be entering the next stage of the story with the best bunch of actors around, along with some inspired filmmakers.”

Having portrayed the goddess Media in the April 2017 debuting first season of Gods, Gillian Anderson has actually said she will not be returning to the series, which Bryan Fuller and Michael Green created and ran for its first cycle. Though the series was renewed for a second season in May 2017, the Hannibal EP and Logan co-writer exited the well watched and well received Gods suddenly last fall. It is also unclear if long time Fuller collaborator Kristin Chenoweth will return to play the goddess Easter as she did in the Season 1 finale of June 18, 2017.

However that plays out, things do look to ready to roll in the House on the Rocks Carousel Room and beyond for Season 2.

Produced by FremantleMedia North America, American Gods is EPd by Gaiman, Alexander, McShane, FMNAs Stefanie Berk, Craig Cegielski and Scott Hornbacher. Director Byrne is co-EPing along with Heather Bellson and Rodney Barnes. Lisa Kussner will produce. SVP of Original Programming Marta Fernandez and Manager of Original Programming Kathleen Clifford are the Starz execs in charge of American Gods for the now Lionsgate-owned premium cabler.
