New evidence has emerged implicating new suspects in the case of Steven Avery, potentially connecting his sister Barbara and her husband Scott Tadych to the crime.

Netflixs documentary series Making A Murderer brought global attention to the case of Steven Avery– who was wrongfully convicted of sexual assault and attempted murder in 1985.

DNA evidence eventually proved his innocence resulting in Avery being released in 2003. After filing a $36 million (£24.4 million) lawsuit against Manitowoc County over the wrongful conviction, Avery was soon accused and convicted of photographer Teresa Halbachs murder – who went missing around the Avery family scrap yard.

Averys defence believe the crime was pinned on him by Manitowoc County. Despite their efforts, Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were both sentenced to jail for the 2005 killing.

Averys nephew also featured highly in the documentary, with his defense claiming he had been coerced into giving a confession by police. His conviction was overturned in 2016, but was later upheld by a higher court in December 2017.

According to Rolling Stone, Averys new lawyer Kathleen Zellner, now believes other family members are involved in the crime and are potentially covering up evidence.

Zellner recently filed documents implicating Brendans older brother Bobby Dassey – with a 54-page supplement claiming Bobby gave a false testimony. His statement was used as a key component in the prosecutions case, with Bobby stating he did not see Halbach leave the property – despite Bryan Dassey having a signed affidavit saying he saw Halbach leave.

Zellners new evidence alleges the Dassey family computer hard drive was accessed when Brendan Dassey was at school and Bobby Dassey was at home, which contained images of Halbach along with many images of violent pornography involving young females being raped and tortured.

There is a paragraph in a police report from 2006 describing what we were able to find with more clarity, Zellner says. [Avery trial attorneys Dean] Strang and [Jerry] Buting received the reports on this violent porn about 7-10 days before trial.

Clearly, they should have investigated, gotten a forensic expert and pinned it to when only Bobby was home. But the State had no real interest in outing Bobbys perversions and obsession with dead female bodies – after all, they didnt want the jury to see their star witness was a developing sexual psychopath.

She goes onto to claim alleged evidence points to Averys sister Barbara hired someone to wipe the computers hard drive before police could access it.

I ask myself what would motivate [Barbara] and Bobby to be such obstructionists and I have reached the inevitable conclusion, as our court filings state, that they were involved in the crime and Barb, was and is involved, even unwittingly, in its cover-up.

Its believed if the court finds the laptop CS was withheld by prosecution and contains evidence, Avery could be granted a new trial.
