EastEnders star Bonnie Langford is leaving the soap after nearly four years as Carmel Kazemi, Metro.co.uk can reveal. While we recently revealed that Mel Owens husband Ray had joined, the cast changes continue – but there is a lot of drama still to come for Carmel before she goes.

Bonnie recently told Metro.co.uk that the knife crime story which saw the death of Carmels son Shakil is far from over and the Kazemis will continue to battle with the aftermath and the grief of their harrowing loss.

The door is being left open for Carmel to return but given what has happened in Walford, its unlikely that she will be able to continue living where her youngest son was murdered. But before that, she has more to confront and further emotional scenes.

However as Ive known since the beginning of this storyline, it would always lead to Carmel having to take a break from Walford. Im not leaving just yet though and there is still plenty more to come from Carmel.

An EastEnders spokesperson confirmed the news to Metro.co.uk, telling us when approached: We can confirm Bonnie will be leaving EastEnders later this year. Bonnie has been a fantastic addition to the cast and we wish her all the very best for the future.

Carmel has been at the centre of a number of major EastEnders plots including a war with Stacey Fowler over baby Arthur, a destructive relationship with Max Branning and of course, the ongoing knife crime storyline which included a devastating funeral episode with real life contributors.

Metro.co.uk understands that Carmels final scenes will air at the end of the year.
