Other than Ive got a text and Im loyal, babes, one of the most repeated phrases on Love Island is I love a girl whos natural.

But that common saying was blasted to smithereens on last nights episode of Love Island when the usually likeable Josh Denzel complained about women taking off their make-up before bed.

In front of horrified girlfriend Kaz Crossley, he said: My biggest issue is, you know when you go on a lovely date, its unbelievable, youre looking at your girl and thinking “you are the most beautiful thing”.

Next thing you know, theyre getting into bed and youre lying there and thinking “I cant wait for her to get into bed” – and theyve come in with your t-shirt on, your old boxers, all the make-ups off – and you think, why couldnt you have just kept that on?

No, Josh, women dont wear make-up solely for your benefit (Picture: ITV)

Josh later apologised to Kaz, telling her shed look gorgeous in a bin bag – but the damage was done, with viewers saying the presenter was cancelled.

And rightly so – why the hell is a womans make-up anything to do with you?

Theres a constant hypocrisy among lads claiming they only like natural girls, but then sharing memes about taking your girl swimming on the first date to see what she really looks like. Guess what, boys? You cant have it both ways! Either you want a girl with perfect contouring and false eyelashes or you want a girl with perfect bare skin and freckles (because when they say natural, what they mean is a girl wearing sheer foundation and neutral lip gloss that they dont realise is perfectly applied nude make-up).

And when you decide which unattainable ideal you want, guess what? That doesnt matter either, because its not your decision!

Complaining about your girlfriend taking off her make-up before bed is disrespectful for so many reasons. Firstly, wearing make-up is bad for your skin, so were not going through that just so you can maintain some bizarre fantasy. Secondly, if you fancy somebody, whether they wear highlighter 24/7 or are a pro with an Urban Decay palette shouldnt matter. And thirdly, contrary to popular belief, women dont wear make-up to impress guys. Why would we care what somebody who doesnt know the difference between MAC lipliner shades thinks about our grooming routine?

I love wearing make-up – send me to a desert island with concealer and Fenty Mattemoiselle in Freckle, ta – but if a man told me that I should wear more make-up, or keep it on when Im in bed, I would run as fast as I could in the other direction.

This works the other way around to, though – men complaining about women wearing too much make-up is just as bad. I am ashamed to admit that not that long ago, a guy I had been on a few dates with told me that his thing was women not wearing any make-up, and asked would I take off all my make-up for a dinner date. I did it. And I felt uncomfortable the whole time – not because I was worried about how I looked, but because I was letting somebody else dictate how I presented myself.

Sometimes, we want to wear a full face of make-up, and if that gives us bigger eyes or more defined cheekbones, dont go complaining youve been catfished – just be jealous you dont have those artistic skills.

If youre dating someone, you should accept them, whether they chooses to go au naturel constantly or whether they wears a full face of make-up every day. Thats part of their style, their routine and their personality, and is not something you can change to suit your fantasy.
