World Championship boxer Freddie Mills was remembered by his family tonight in a stunning documentary that had an unsuspecting connection to the 60s mob scene.

Freddie, father-of-three, was found dead behind the nightclub he owned in Soho on 25 July, 1965, and it was quickly ruled a suicide.

He was found in the backseat of his car with a single gunshot wound through his eye, and a fairground gun was found beside him.

After discovering he had borrowed the gun from a friend, and that he had bouts of depression, the coroner ruled the death a suicide.

However his family have always maintained that he was murdered, and sixty years later they are still fighting for justice for their father.

As if the story itself wasnt fascinating enough, it was added to the fact that Freddie was an avid film-maker, and so his story is told through a series of intimate home movies that show him to be a dedicated father and husband.

The boxer became one of the first sporting celebrities of his time, with his fame being compared to the level David Beckham was at today.

Its a fascinating look at the effects boxing has on someones mental health, as well as how ingrained the mafia world was involved with the sport.

It then brings a last minute twist when someone comes forward claiming that their father is behind the murder, confirming suspicions that his family had held for so long.

But is the person coming forward trustworthy? We just dont know – it just adds another layer to this confusing but completely gripping tale of the London underworld.

The film is an incredible look at the life of an incredible man that may have disappeared into his own mystery in the years following his death, but clearly lived a life he loved.
