For all of those people out there pinning their hopes on an eventual reunion for Paddy Kirk and Rhona Goskirk, it looks like its time to give up – as it isnt happening according to Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt.

The pair danced around their feelings for one another recently and it seemed like a possibility that they would get back together. But Paddy is now in a committed relationship with Chas Dingle and Rhona has found happiness with Pete Barton.

Things seemed shaky for Paddy and Chas when their wedding was called off but in the wake of their tragic baby news, the pair are vowing to stick together and get through this as a solid unit – especially as some of their most harrowing times are still to come.

On whether Paddy and Chas are staying together, Dominic told Metro.co.uk: I hope so, but the differences between the two people is really interesting. They have different view points but also Ive been given these bits where he is a bit like a buffoon, hes not carrying the baby so he cant help but say the wrong things sometimes. Ultimately hes a good person and hes trying to do whats best. So I really hope they stay together.

Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas, added: I really hope they do but hopefully they are going to continue to show two people going through the same experience but who have different ways of getting through it. So not only have we got the next bit of storyline to do, weve also got the aftermath of what happens which Im sure is going to be equally difficult.

This means that a Paddy and Rhona reunion is unlikely. So is the door closed? Dominic explained: I think so yeah – it would be very hard to come back from where they went to. Im really glad theyve kept them as friends and I think they worked that out really well. They didnt just split – they split and they had a little go and then no thats it.

I liked the fact he was just a bit jealous but in love with Chas but you know, its just one of those things. I mean it was a long relationship for a soap relationship as well and thankfully Im working with Zoe this afternoon – shes great, Ive got three big scenes with her and we still work at the vets together.

But Lucy and I were also delighted when we were called upstairs and they said “Were gonna put you two together Chas and Paddy” because wed already had this year, this bonkers year, so we were jumping round the room. I felt like Id had an affair!

And the pair are still enjoying working together as much as ever – which makes it a lot easier when it comes to performing harrowing and tough scenes for the current storyline which will see them eventually lose their baby after she is born.

Dominic enthused: Were very similar weve got kids and all the troubles that that brings. I think its been great and we natter a lot, were always on set constantly being told to shut up, while Lucy smiled: Yes we are friends it does help that you get on with someone that you work with.
