Rebecca White has never been in a more dire situation and this week could be her last in Emmerdale as the character may die at the hands of Lachlan after spotting an opportunity to escape the shack of doom – while the villages kids head out to investigate the noises they heard in the woods.

Rebecca has been fiercely biding her time to spot a chink in Lachlans armour as she remains determined to survive and be with her baby son Seb again. And with Lachlan away and the camping kids heading out to find out what the shack holds, this could be her chance.

Hearing what the children are up to, Lachlan is troubled and races to the woods. But when Angelica creaks open the door to Rebeccas prison, what will she find?

It has been confirmed by actor Thomas Atkinson that the storyline still has some way to go yet as it looks set to reach a shocking crescendo this autumn – so could this mean its curtains for Rebecca as he is forced to deal with the situation before she is found?

Thomas promised that the scenes would get darker from here as things get more and more desperate for Lachlan – but as for Rebeccas fate, viewers will have to tune in tonight.

Emily Head, who plays her, recently told Metro.co.uk: Its definitely Rebeccas hardest time. If you put anyone in isolation long enough, they certainly become weaker. Underneath it all she is very strong, theres a reason she hasnt given up and shes still fighting to escape and is beating away at her chains with a rock that she found on the fireplace.

Theres a definite strength and resilience to her, but you certainly will see periods where it looks like shes given up. She does think “this is futile, nothing is going to happen”. But then theres a new surge of adrenaline and she is thinking about Seb, as long as she escapes she can see him and he can have his mother back, thats her motivation.

Her ultimate plan is survival. Shes asked him to let her go – “as long as I can be with Seb I will go away I wont tell anyone whats happened, I wont talk to anyone, I will forget you ever existed if thats what it means to be with my son.” That is whats driving her through, keeping her alive. Adrenaline filled trying to escape is the idea of being with her son again.

Emmerdale continues on Thursday 9th August at 7pm and 8pm on ITV.
