Strictly Come Dancing bosses are said to be eyeing Neil Jones to replace Brendan Cole on the show this year.

Brendan was dropped from the hit BBC programme in January after 14 years.

Katya Jones won Strictly last year with actor Joe McFadden, and is being lined up to become one half of a power couple when her husband Neil takes part.

He has previously appeared in group dances on Strictly but is yet to compete – until now.

According to a TV insider, Neil has always wanted to compete for the glitterball with a celebrity partner, and producers think his popularity and wicked personality would make him ideal in a starring role on the BBC1 show.

They said to The Sun: He is well liked by the other dancers and crew and he has a wicked personality.

Producers are lining him up for a star role. The only thing that could stand in his way is height.

The publication also quotes Strictly voiceover Alan Dedicoat as saying: Neil Jones is doing it this year. Hes always been on the show but not coupled with someone, so itll be interesting to see how he does.

Stars who are rumoured to be joining this year are Steps singer Faye Tozer, Olympian Tom Daley, Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts and Capital FM DJ Vick Hope.

Presenter Maya Jama recently revealed she had been offered a spot on the show but turned it down.

Maya said on Good Morning Britain: Im not on Strictly. I dont think now is the right time.

Asked whether she had been approached to appear, Maya said: Im not sure if Im allowed to say that stuff.

When host Ben Shepherd said he had been asked, Maya replied: Well, yeah, but not for now.

I want to show people who I am a bit more. I dont want to be the one where they go, “whos that?”

Strictly is set to return later this year.
