Its always nice to have some recognition for a job well done – but Emmerdale actor Dominic Brunt has revealed to Metro.co.uk that while he will always support the show at ceremonies and hope for it to do well, he can live without an award personally.

The actor has played Paddy Kirk for over two decades and hasnt won a single gong – as one of the most underrated performers on the show, he always nails the comedy, the real nuances to Paddys unique mannerisms and the heart wrenching drama such as the current ongoing baby loss story with Chas Dingle and episodes such as his declaration of love to Mandy Dingle and the moment that tortured Aaron came out as gay to him.

Dominics line of thinking is that Emmerdale havent kept him because he wins awards so maybe its best that he doesnt as he doesnt want to ruin his streak – and we can see his point!

He explained when speaking to us: Ive never won an award since Ive been here for 21 years. I wear that as a safety belt. I never think of them. Its stood me in good stead – Ive had a job for 21 years without a single award so Im obviously not getting employed because of awards so I dont want to jinx it by winning one!

Also, having an awards ceremony to say youre this, that and the other – does that mean you arent those things next year? Its not a race. It seems preposterous to me – giving out awards for two hours to four different programmes. Why are we separate from every other programme anyway? Its not that Im not a fan of them – I never go to the awards but I always watch them at home and cheer on my mates.

And I watch the Oscars – I love that kind of stuff but from the comfort of my own home. I was sat with Lisa Riley years ago at one and she was so nervous – you want everyone to do well and for the show to do well. Im just not sure how important it is for someone like me or a character like Paddy to win one.

That said, fans are hailing praise on Dominic for his performances during this heartbreaking story – and they arent alone. When we caught up with Lucy Pargeter and Danny Miller too, they couldnt speak too highly of their colleague.

Lucy enthused: I couldnt have asked for anyone better to do this story with. Hes amazing – as a support as well as everything else. The scenes weve done in the hospital – I dont like seeing men cry anyway but we had so many scenes where we had to go off set somewhere and calm down. To see a grown man going through that – hes just been ridiculously amazing and I just love him to bits.

Danny said: Hes been so so supportive of the show and supportive of individuals in the show. Whenever anybodys won any awards hes always been the first to congratulate them. Hes not bothered about those kinds of awards, sometimes its kind of nice that you dont get them, because its the pressure of it. But he plays Paddy exceptionally well.
