Whenever a new boss takes over at Coronation Street or any other soap, we here at Metro.co.uk count down the days before we can consider them officially settled and ready to answer our burning questions. Iain MacLeod has revealed his vision for his upcoming tenure – and the bottom line is he wont be changing the recipe of the show which has survived 60 years on air and is still going strong – but he was a little more of a closed book when it came to dropping spoilers.

Asked about his plans he said: I know theres been a lot of talk about the tone of show, I think the show always needs to have big material in it. But, as weve seen in the episodes around the double wedding, which I was fortunate enough to see as a viewer because they were in train before I got here, the shows at its best when theres comedy in it, when its got the low-key heart breaking poignant stuff like the Daniel and Sinead stuff weve just seen as well as some high drama and action-packed sequences. I think that was a really microcosm of what Corrie needs to be and its all about balance.

My background in Corrie is that I like all the funny stuff, but equally, Ive worked on the tram crash, in my previous incarnation of the show, Ive worked on Tyrone and Kirstys domestic violence story, I worked on Carlas rape, I worked on Peters alcoholism. So, my preferences are broad, and I think that is reflected in the audience really, you cant please people all the time but Corries been very good since it was first conceived at pleasing most of the people most of the time. So, Im hoping we can give everybody under my tenure a little of what they like. Well, a lot of what they like, I hope.

However, thats not to say that were totally spoiler free…
