Liberal Professor Gloria Browne-Marshall, appearing on “CNN Newsroom” on Saturday, claimed that especially in the wake of the #MeToo movement, it isnt “enough to just be a woman.”

Browne-Marshall, a Constitutional law professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, was responding to the speech given by Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins prior to the announcement of her intent to vote “yea” on the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Collins, during her lengthy floor speech on Friday, flatly rejected the notion that a vote to confirm Kavanaugh — who has been accused by several women of sexual misconduct — was somehow an acceptance of sexual assault. “Nothing could be further from the truth,” Collins said.

According to Browne-Marshall, however, its “ironic” that a woman would be the deciding vote in favor of Kavanaugh.

“You have to think about all of the work that went into getting women into positions of political power,” she explained. “And this is after Anita Hill, of course, and then to turn around and say that despite the #MeToo movement, despite all that we learned as women, it would be women who put the vote over the top.”

Browne-Marshall did not mention the fact that none of the allegations against Kavanaugh were ever substantiated — or even corroborated by any witnesses — in spite of an additional week devoted to further investigation into the matter. Instead, she went on to say that perhaps just having women in positions of power wasnt enough.

“Now we have to look at the right women. It is not enough to just be female. What are the politics, what are the — what is the background, what are the values? It is not enough just to be a woman. You have to be a woman who is right for the issues going forward.”
