A grandmother from Boliver, Mississippi is under questioning for the death of her 20-month-old granddaughter found dead in an oven with stab wounds.
Carolyn Jones, 38, is accused of stabbing her granddaughter, Royalty Marie Floyd, and placing her in a heated oven to die on Monday night according to NBC 12. Police were immediately called to the property by a relative, to find Floyd in the oven after she was baked to death. Her body went straight to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
Boliver Country Sheriff Kevin Williams told the Associated Press “Ive been doing law enforcement for 25 or 26 years now… This is one of the most horrible things Ive seen in doing law enforcement. The hardest part … is to see a child victim.” Williams also stated that no authorities had any information to give regarding the death of Marie Floyd. When Jones showed up to court, she was set for $500,000 bond and charged with first-degree murder. She went to jail from there and has not been questioned since. The arrest took place Monday night when police arrived at the home and was held overnight for questioning, according to the sheriff.
“Its a baby. Its an innocent child. She didnt ask to be here”, said neighbor Tomorrow Williams, when asked by WMC-TV. The footage found on the police tape showed all the toddlers belongings curbed outside in front of the house, including a stroller, high chair, and barrel of toys.
Sheriffs stated that Jones was the primary caregiver for Floyd while the toddlers biological mother lived elsewhere.
