Coronation Street has come out top at the Inside Soap Awards 2018 as the winners list has revealed that they have netted an impressive eight prizes – putting them well ahead of Emmerdales four, EastEnders two and one for Hollyoaks.

The soap, which has been led through a very eventful and much talked about year bu outgoing producer Kate Oates, also ended Emmerdales five win reign as Best Soap to take home the biggest trophy of the night.

Pat Phelans story, the tragic exit of Aidan Connor and David Platts rape plot were among the major storylines recognised but Corrie also won the two available comedy gongs, dispelling accusations that the show has been turning off viewers for being too dark.
