The 2019 Golden Globes Ambassador is Isan Elba, daughter of Kim and Idris Elba, a.k.a. the Peoples Bond and current reigning Sexiest Man Alive. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced their pick late Wednesday. As part of the gig, the younger Elba will be onstage during Globes night, guiding announcers and winners and distributing trophies. In addition, ambassadors work with a nonprofit to highlight an issue they care about. For Isan, 16, that issue is mental health awareness.

“I feel honored to hold this title and use this role to not only further educate people on the work of the HFPA, but also shine a light on issues that I care about,” she said in a statement. “Mental health, specifically among African Americans and my peers in particular, is something I really want to be more vocal about. Theres this perceived stigma and Ive seen friends struggle. We need to empower young people to not be afraid to ask for help.”

Isan, rather charmingly, told Variety that she “had no idea” her parents threw her name in the ring for the job. “My dad texted me and I was like, did he text to the wrong number? But then Mom explained it all to me.”

This is the second year in a row that the Globes have used the new “Ambassador” title for the job, a change that was made to make the position more inclusive (and perhaps strip away the pageant-y sheen of the former title, “Miss/Mister Golden Globe”).

“Last year, the HFPA renamed the title to represent a more inclusive role that was not only gender-neutral but also spoke to the HFPAs commitment to philanthropy,” HFPA President Meher Tatna said in a statement. “However, we are continuing to stand by the tradition that the honoree is the daughter or son of a well-known actor.”

The teen will be taking over a role that was last held by Sylvester Stallones daughters, Sistine, Sophia, and Scarlet. As far as celebrity progeny goes, Isan seems chill; she has successfully maintained a low profile, even though she has accompanied her superstar father to various red carpet events. The 16-year-old told Variety that shes interested in going into acting and possibly directing herself, inspired by watching her dad make his directorial debut with Yardies, which came out this year. She also seems to handle the worlds collective thirst for her father pretty well, all things considered—though things got a little awkward when he was getting his saucy Sexiest Man Alive title.

“Actually, I was on Instagram. People said, Oh, were announcing the Sexiest Man Alive, and I was like, Oh yes, cant wait,” she said at the Golden Globes Ambassador press conference. “I wake up in the morning and its my dad. I was like, This is not what I was expecting. This is not very fun.”

She continued: “When I called him the day after, not even about it, he was like, Do you have anything to say to me?” she told People. “And I said, No, I dont think so. Then he said, Im the Sexiest Man Alive. I was like, Oh, yeah. That. That thing. Uh, okay, cool. Youre welcome.”

Well, someones got to keep him humble. The 2019 Globes will take place on Jan. 6, 2019.
