Vikings stars Alex Høgh Andersen and Marco Ilsø have undergone a transformation after filming on season six came to an end.

Not wanting to rock long flowing hair in between seasons, the actors – who play Ivar the boneless and his brother Hvitserk respectively – decided to go for the chop.

Alex posted the results of their spontaneous makeovers on Instagram.

Both men now have hair that comes to just under their ears instead of falling around their shoulders.

Alex said that he opted for the new do to mark reaching 1 millions followers on Instagram, and told fans to look forward to season 5B of Vikings.

He said on Instagram: Celebrating 1 million followers with a haircut. Kitchen scissor and good tunes can do wonders.

On a more serious note: Thanks for all the support. I really, really appreciate it, hope everyone will enjoy the new season of #Vikings!

The actors makeovers will do nothing to stop speculation that Vikings is ending for good after season six, which was first sparked by some of the cast sharing a group photo of everyone who worked on the series.

Actors Jordan Patrick Smith, who plays Ubbe, and Georgia Hirst, who plays Torvi, both shared pictures on Instagram of the Vikings team together for one big group shot.

Love was definitely in the air as the actors gushed over the people that make the show, with Hirst writing the message: I love you all so much.

Smith wrote: What an amazing group of humans.

While they were simply paying tribute to their colleagues, fans began speculating that it was some sort of farewell to the History Channel show.

Floki, Lagertha, Ivar, Harald and Rollo are absent from the group picture, so does this mean we could be saying goodbye to some much loved characters in season six?
