(Picture: BBC)Its always intriguing for fans when a new boss takes over their favourite soap – especially when the new producer is credited with majorly successful reigns at the two biggest rivals Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

And Louisa Lytton has revealed that the excitement is shared by the cast and crew of the show as she has enthused that the atmosphere is buzzing now that the team have met Kate Oates and started looking to the next era of Walford.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Louisa smiled: Its really exciting – theres such a buzz at the moment at work. We all met with her and shes just brilliant and I just feel like she will be great for the show. Were all so excited to have fresh eyes on the show – its always exciting when a new boss joins the show.

Kate has already hinted at her initial plans for the show which include a storyline which will prove to be a huge talking point as well as her intention to improve the diversity of the show, including with the introduction of more LGBTQ+ characters.

And there is another strong and groundbreaking episode ahead for the show as an entire episode focuses on the debate of consent. With Rubys case being publicised after charges are brought to Ross and Matt, it becomes the topic of the pub.

Louisa explained: Its such a great episode because thats exactly what is happening at the moment, even with people around me. Ive had so many different people giving different views and asking different questions. All we wanted to portray is that in the real world at the moment, this is what is happening.

People have different views – different generations, men and women. Each different character has a different opinion on rape and on consent and Ruby is having to be in the situation where she can hear people talking about her situation without knowing its about her. The paranoia sets in – its a different episode but I think its needed as there have been so many questions around this storyline. Its needed to highlight all the different views.
