Vikings season 5B episode 2 review: Why we cant help but feel sorry for Ivar The Boneless
Why we can help but feel sorry for Ivar (Picture: History) Vikings has just gone and outdone itself..
Vikings has just gone and outdone itself once again, but now we are left all confused with how we feel about Ivar The Boneless.
Hes the character we love to hate but after the latest episode, Murder Most Foul, we cant help but find ourselves taking pity on him.
The king has fallen head over heels for his new queen Freydis, who claims to see the warrior as a God above all men.
And while we are unsure as to whether her feelings for Ivar are true, the pair have got us all rooting for them, as we just want the king to be happy, right?.
After announcing Queen Freydis to his people, Ivar reveals his insecurities, and is shown worrying about his boneless aspect when taking his relationship to new heights.
Alex Hogh Andersen does an amazing job at portraying Ivars vulnerability, and totally breaks our heart when he stops Freydis from getting intimate.

But the new Kattegat queen has a plan, and convinces Ivar that if she drinks his blood then she will become pregnant with his child, because of course…
Blinded by love, Ivar fully believes her, and while he is off plotting against Lagertha, Freydis is getting frisky with another Viking with hope of becoming pregnant.
We know she did this with the best intention, but we cant help feeling theres an ulterior motive.
And this seems to be going through Ivars mind too, as he is haunted by nightmares that Freydis will turn out to be just like Margrethe.
But while Ivar boasts Freydis is with child, our Viking queen Lagertha is also finding love in England, as she gets close to Bishop Heahmund.
Everywhere we turn in this episode there is some kind of new relationship being sparked.
King Alfred is introduced to his new wife Elsewith, who, despite appearing to be pleased she is set to marry the king, cant help but have a wandering eye for Bjorn.
Well forgive her.
Bjorn is intrigued by this, and does nothing to stop her feelings from flourishing, finding himself in bed with her.
Whether his feelings for Elsewith are true or if this is just to get a one up on Alfred, only time will tell, but were almost certain its the latter.

And as his family are having intimate relations, Ubbe appears to be having an inner battle with himself, as he has been asked by Alfred to renounce his Viking gods and be baptised as a Christian in order to receive lands in East Anglia.
Dont do it Ubbe!

But hes not the only one conflicted by his religion, as Floki has gone and given us all the feels after questioning his gods existence.
Once Floki starts to lose faith, we think its fair to say that the game is well and truly over.
Lets hope that next weeks episode is injected with some positivity, because at this rate, things are not looking good for our Nordic favourites.
Vikings continues next Wednesday at 9pm EST on the History Channel and Sky Atlantic.
