British director Jonathan Entwistle once saw a copy of Charles Forsmans self-published microcomics series The End of the F***king World in a trash bin. The find led to him creating the cult comedy-drama series for Channel 4 which became a Netflix original in the rest of the world.
Now Entwistle is taking another series of self-published Forsman microcomics, which channel the teenage ethos, I Am Not Okay With This, to make it into a coming-of-age TV series for Netflix. He is teaming on the project with Shawn Levy, the director-executive producer of Netflixs coming-of-age mega hit Stranger Things.
Netflix has ordered eight episodes of I Am Not Okay With This, which falls under Levy and his 21 Laps Entertainment have at the streaming network.
Co-created by Entwistle and Christy Hall, the series is written by Hall and directed by Entwistle. I Am Not Okay With This is about a teenage girl navigating the trials and tribulations of high school, all the while dealing with the complexities of her family, her budding sexuality, and… mysterious superpowers just beginning to awaken from deep within her.
Entwistle and Hall executive produce with 21 Laps Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry.
Entwistle serves as director and executive producer on The End of the F***king World, which has been renewed for a second season.
A full collection of Forsmans I Am Not OK With This microcomics was released as a one-volume graphic novel in 2017.
21 Laps recently wrapped production on Stranger Things 3. The company, with Fox 2000, also recently acquired feature rights to Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters Because They Are Terrifying, an elevated horror short story written by Alice Sola Kim, in a bidding battle among multiple studios. 21 Laps is producing. They recently teamed with Greg Berlanti to adapt the hit New York musical Be More Chill. Upcoming projects include Foxs Free Guy, with Levy directing and Ryan Reynolds starring, Monster Problems starring Dylan OBrien at Paramount Players, and Sesame Street at Warner Brothers.
