What do you do when a beloved First Lady is visiting your late-night show? Surprise people, of course! On Tuesday, Jimmy Fallon did just that as he welcomed Michelle Obama back to The Tonight Show—to the great delight of many guests at 30 Rock. The gambit? Very simple: stand outside the elevators and wait.

As the doors opened, multiple tour groups at NBCs headquarters were treated to the surprise of a lifetime: Fallon and Michelle Obama, waiting to be glimpsed by them. One group saw the pair sitting in armchairs, casually reading one anothers books. Another saw the two playing around with a piano. Yet another saw Obama jumping rope. Regardless of what Obama was doing, the reaction was always the same: gleeful screams.

This is not the first time Obama and Fallon have teamed up for a heartwarming prank. Last year, as the Obamas departed the White House, Fallon invited guests to record farewell messages for Michelle—but did not inform them that the First Lady was listening to their heartfelt words from behind a screen. The reactions were about as emotional as youd expect. In fact, the idea was such a success that Fallon later repeated it with guests including Chadwick Boseman and Tina Fey.

Perhaps this is the kind of late-night fare we could use more of. After all, gleeful videos of celebrity pranks and senior-center concerts make a pretty solid balm for troubled souls.
