Ruth Wilson has confirmed that Alice Morgan is more lethal than ever as she returns to Luther in series five.

Fans of the BBC thriller were led to believe that Alice died in series four, but John Luthers world is set to be rocked when she turns up in the middle of a new mystery.

Wilson teased that Alice is set to cause plenty of trouble and leave a trail of bodies in her wake.

The actor said: Ive missed Alice as everyone else has. Shes really fun character to play and I get to do some action in this season. I get to kill a few more people… and have some great scenes with Idris.

Its an action packed series. Alice is back with a vengeance. Shes funnier than ever; shes more lethal than ever and she and Luther get up to some dastardly things.

So why has Alice suddenly shown up out of the blue, and what is she after?

Things have all gone a bit wrong, Ruth said. So shes come back to get Luthers help.

TELEVISION PROGRAMMES: 'LUTHER', 9pm, BBC1.. Picture shows: Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) & DCI John Luther (Idris Elba) TX: BBC One A SMART but maverick cop whose private life is falling apart returns to work following a controversial incident and finds himself up against an intellectually gifted arch criminal? Yes, we?ve heard it all before, but, before you switch off, this is really rather good. Idris Elba (pictured with Ruth Wilson), London-born star of cult U.S. cop show The Wire, plays DCI John Luther who, following a double murder, finds himself face to face with the evil genius who will be dogging him throughout the six-part series, even as he investigates other cases. Original, perhaps not, but beautifully done and deliciously intriguing ? and the powerfully charismatic Elba is terrific. A very promising ? and classy ? start. Ruth went on: Ive absolutely adored playing Alice and each season we find new sides to her. This season we certainly see a lot more to Alice.

I love playing her. Theres a real joy to Alice. And I think in the context of the show, its quite useful to have a character like that who can bring lightness to it.

Even though she does dark things, she does it playfully and I think the audience enjoy it for that reason.

Speaking about what it was like being on the Luther set after such a long time, Ruth said: I love coming back. The first day coming back was just a joy. It was wonderful to see the old crew.

We have lots of characters coming back so it was like an all-star reunion and its been really fun to do.

Meanwhile Luther newcomer Wunmi Mosaku admitted that she found the dark scripts hard to get her head around.

I really struggled. I had nightmares! she told Metro.co.uk.

It is pretty dark. From reading the script I had “Oh god” moments. Reading the scripts does send tingles, I think.

Interestingly it wasnt hard to film. The dead bodies arent real dead bodies because they start talking to you after we shout “cut”.

But just the imagery is hard to get rid of. It wasnt actually scary on set.
