Emmerdale spoilers: Horror violence as Matty Barton is brutally attacked

Matty Bartons New Years Eve becomes a scene of violence and terror tonight as he is surrounded by a gang and beaten up in a disgusting transphobic attack. Matty had been hopeful that he was going on a date but when it is cancelled, he is disheartened.

He is then nervous when he bumps into a boyfriend he had when he was Hannah and Isaac reacts badly to discovering that a woman he slept with then became a man. As his mates mock him, Matty tries to play it down but Isaac is seething.

Later he decides to lash out and he and the yobs grab Matty and attack him before wrestling him to the ground and forcing his top up to prove that his operation isnt complete and accuse him of not being a proper man.

Matty is devastated and rushes off but when he later opens up to Cain Dingle about happened, Cain decides to get revenge on his behalf and seeks out a showdown with Isaac and his friends.

Its Cains intention to punish them with violence but before he delivers a blow, he freezes at the memory of Joe Tates death and cant move. Isaac and his gang take advantage of this and beat Cain up to within an inch of his life.

He eventually arrives home, battered and bleeding, and Moira and Matty are shocked when they find out what has happened to him. Matty decides that enough is enough and calls the police but when PC Swirling arrives to talk to Cain, he is nervous that he might give away too much about Joe.

Is Cain about to drop himself in it over Joes demise?

Meanwhile, Mattys experience leads him to make a decision and speak to doctors about having a mastectomy.

Emmerdale airs Mattys attack on New Years Eve at 7pm on ITV.
