Richard Madden has won his first solo Golden Globe as he took the gong for his role in Bodyguard.

And what a well-deserved win!

Fans (including us, lets get that out of the way) went wild over 32-year-old Richards nod as he won best performance by an actor in a television series – drama, for his take on David Budd in the BBC success story.

He beat the likes of Jason Bateman, Steven James, Billy Porter and Matthew Rhys.

As he took to the stage he immediately thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and admitted he didnt see this coming at all.

He added he wouldnt be on the stage if it wasnt for the cast and crew of the cult hit created by Jed Mecurio.

You guys made it, he said, before turning his attention to his amazing co-star. And I want to say thank you to Keeley Hawes who is one of the best actresses to have worked with.

The Game of Thrones actor continued: Jed Mercurio thanks for writing this and for trusting me to do this, youre amazing, thank you.

Most importantly my friends and my family and mum and dad who flew all the way from Scotland, I wouldnt be here without you.

His co-star Keeley wasnt able to attend the awards this evening, however despite not being at the ceremony herself, the 42-year-old sent her well wishes to Richard before the show.

Taking to Twitter, the actress who played Julie Montague in the hit BBC drama shared a picture of the duo embracing to her 135,000 followers.

In the caption she wrote: Sending lots of love, kisses, and luck to the BRILLIANT @_richardmadden and the whole #Bodyguard team at the #GoldenGlobes tonight!

We hope there is plenty more where Richards win came from, after Jed hinted at another series of the show.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he explained how its yet to be decided whether the show will be picked up for a second series – despite its crazy success.

Asked if the Bodyguard will get a second series, Jed said: I really dont know.

The approach to it was definitely that we would just focus on this series and if were fortunate enough its successful and the BBC wants to do more, and we can find a way of setting up production, then yes definitely Id be open to the idea.

But theres been absolutely no discussion about a second series yet, theres certainly no plan to do a second series yet until weve had that conversation with the BBC.

We can but hope!
