Game of Thrones Lena Headey has opened up about filming for the show while having postnatal depression.

The 45-year-old mum-of-two, who plays Cersei Lannister in the HBO franchise which kicks off with its eighth season tonight, battled with the illness shortly after giving birth to her son Wylie Loughran, who she shares with ex-husband Peter.

It was horrendous – I had post-natal depression but I didnt know it, she recalled to The Sun.

I saw a doctor for the medical check and I just burst into tears.

Lena, who welcomed a daughter in 2015, continued to the publication: I did the first year [of Game of Thrones] in that space, figuring out motherhood and going through a weird time personally. It was tricky.

Game of Thrones is gearing up for its final season set to air in the US tonight and weve got your back with an epic drinking game.

Lena has already hinted at an early death for Cersei as she teased that her character doesnt meet Daenerys Targaryens famous dragons, and we know that shes high up on Arya Starks (Maisie Williams) kill list.

Although the cast has remained tight-lipped over what will happen, theyve teased all sorts, with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss admitting that some fans are going to hate the ending.

Dan said: We want people to love it. It matters a lot to us. Weve spent 11 years doing this.

We also know no matter what we do, even if its the optimal version, that a certain number of people will hate the best of all possible versions.

There is no version where everybody says, “I have to admit, I agree with every other person on the planet that this is the perfect way to do this” — thats an impossible reality that doesnt exist.
